It’s only a flesh wound….

The Iranian government announced yesterday that their nuclear facilities are “immune to cyber attacks.” That strikes me a little bit like the Black Knight in Monty Python, shouting “I am invincible!” The cyber battlefield is somewhat unique in that cyber attack is considerably easier than cyber defense. Distance means nothing and “probing” attacks cost nothing, so attackers need only find one weakness to exploit – defenders need to find and fix them all.

So I’m somewhat skeptical of Iran’s claim. That said, it’s further proof that “all politics are local” – the proclamation is clearly intended at a domestic audience to reassure their people that they’re on the ball.
