The 2012 Primary season has been one “pivotal” or “crucical” or “game changing” battle after another. In the end though, it’s going to turn into a slog for delegates. However this battle ends up, it’s going to end up looking a lot more like a basketball game than anything else – a series of small victories that add up to a larger score. Hit 1144, the buzzer sounds and the game ends.
So you can safely ignore all the breathless coverage of the “pivotal” or “vital” primary in Illionois – the primary isn’t even winner-take-all, so it’s pretty much guaranteed that Santorum will get a few, Romney will get a few. How many each gets obviously matters in the sense that a three-pointer is worth more than a two-pointer, but when everyone wakes up Wednesday morning, the facts will be pretty much the same – Romney will be a little closer to 1144, Santorum will still be pushing for a contested convention.
