GOP Divided on VP choice they don’t get to make

In a CNN poll, Condaleeza Rice, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Chris Christie are at the top of the GOP’s wish list for VP. For this decision, I don’t think that really matters. Clearly those 4 are at the height of “recognition” status, but Rubio has said yet again he won’t run, Santorum and Romney reportedly did not get along (and Santorum has yet to endorse Romney). Rice is a possibility I had not heard before, and while she’d go a long way towards bolstering Romney’s foreign policy team, she brings too much Bush administration baggage – the last thing Romney needs is to have to defend every foreign policy decision made from 2000-2008.

That leaves Christie, and I remain convinced that he is too big of a character for the 2nd slot – he’s much better as an advocate that can be a bit of a pit bull if required (and can be distanced if required). Additionally, he’s another Northeaster governor – not what this campaign needs.

My pick Bob McDonnell, is only at 1%, but that’s largely a factor of name reconigtion – that could change very, very quickly. (My runner-up pick, Ohio’s Rob Portman, is polling at LESS than 1%, so there you go.)
