I just found out that a friend and classmate of mine was killed in Afghanistan a couple of days ago. He was an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Platoon Commander and a damn fine person. I knew him as an NROTC midshipman, where we commissioned together. He was always good for a laugh and some much needed perspective on things – I learned a lot from him and have no doubt that he was revered by the men he led.

My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family – his wife is also a Naval Officer and a dear friend. I can not imagine the pain and heartbreak that she and the rest of their family is going through, so I will pause only to reflect on having known a hero.

A friend of Chris posted this on his Facebook wall. Having shared a few Lagers with him, I can think of no finer tribute.

I'm a Naval Officer living in Southern California. I hope to be attending law school in the next year or two, and I started writing this blog out of a desire to improve my writing and critical thinking skills after a couple years outside of academia.
